Amy Lord spent 22 years battling addiction before realizing she couldn't fight her way out of it alone.
Her story began at 15, during the breakdown of her family. In the middle of that pain, she was introduced to crystal meth, beginning a cycle of drug and alcohol abuse that would follow her for more than two decades.
But looking back, Amy realized she wasn't addicted to just one substance.
She was addicted to "more."
More intensity. More escape. More of anything that could temporarily quiet the pain she hadn't dealt with.
For years, Amy tried to manage it while maintaining the appearance that everything was under control. She built a successful career. She became a high-functioning addict. And privately, the cycle continued.
Then came October 21, 2005.
After a night of partying left her hours from home, late for work, and unsure of what had happened the night before, Amy knew something had to change.
On the ride home, she prayed.
When she arrived, she fell to her knees and surrendered to God, asking to be delivered from the addiction she had spent years trying to overcome on her own.
Then she did something else that terrified her: she told her general manager the truth.
That surrender became the beginning of a different life.
Amy has now celebrated 20 years of sobriety.
In this No Surrender Quick Lesson, Justin Cole and Amy explore a powerful contradiction:
