Recently, I came across a post made by someone I’m connected to on a social media platform.
In the post, the writer lamented about her frustrations of not being paid or being underpaid for her services as a consultant.
She resolved to hold her ground in the new year to refuse offers and requests that involved her providing speeches, advice, etc that were not tied to cash as payment.
She went on and on, making statements that I could absolutely relate to and agree with.
From her vocalized frustrations, I began to think back and think deeper on the subject.
Many seasoned, professional consultants have experienced a time or two when they were approached with a request to “pick their brain” or to meet for coffee/lunch under the pretenses of “catching up” as old pals or getting to know a new one, only to end up at an attempt by the other party to inadvertently “pick their brain”…
Many of these same professional, seasoned consultants have experienced opportunities to speak/render services with no monetary compensation, all in the name of getting “exposure”.
It can feel frustrating and even insulting as the quality of your services are being devalued.
Listen to this episode as I discuss how I handle such scenarios.
👋🏾 Hey there, friend! 🥳
