What is the link between Mass Media and International Law? Frequently, attempts at linking both subjects are almost always dismissed for a lack of legal substance or content. In this exchange, Omar is joined by world renowned Professor Noam Chomsky in an attempt to locate the overlap between both disciplines. They most notably focus on the influence of media on armed conflicts, and cover the seminal theoretical and methodological foundations established by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky in Manufacturing Consent. They also address the responsibility of academics, and examine their role as experts who sway the manufacture of consent to armed expeditions abroad. With this context, the discussion turns to the discursive power wielded by mass media and the intelligentsia, as illustrated by their influential commentary on the Russian incursion into Ukraine, and the American incursion into Iraq and Afghanistan. Finally, they consider the success of postmodernism and relativism in the modern humanities, and highlight the limits of contemporary liberal scholarship.
