This year’s Nobel Prize Awards in the category of Chemistry was awarded to two women for their exemplary contribution to targeted genome editing technology which has become a mainstream technique used in biological research. CRISPR is predicted to be the forerunner for medical advances and revolutionary treatment approaches in patients with hereditary diseases and cancer. However, genetic manipulation also raises several ethical concerns. Can we circumvent unethical practices and help humanity cure some of the most devastating diseases using this technology?
