Gifts and gift giving are essential parts of animist and pre-industrial societies. Such a simple thing as 'a gift', when incorporated into the manner of all social relations leads to concrete, measurable changes in economies by boosting liquidity and eroding class divisions. In Nordic tradition a gift *must* be reciprocated, raising barter and trade into an ever present awareness of our social relations by setting them in law.
