The weather bureau is predicting a potential tropical cyclone system to form off the Queensland coast as early as Sunday.

There is a 25 per cent chance it could form by Saturday which would increase to 60 per cent by Monday.

9News Weather Guru Gary Youngberry told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "It's a fine line between when it's worth mentioning or not, and it's worth mentioning now."

"I think we're definitely going to see a cyclone, not before Sunday, it's a tropical low now, probably by Monday," Mr. Youngberry said.
