They created devices that send electrical signals realistic enough to activate real neurons. They tested them on mouse brain tissue and report their results in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.
These artificial neurons triggered natural brain electronic responses that mimic those to actual neurons in both timing and signal shape. Given this response,
this technology could lead to more effective hearing, vision, and movement implants to replace brain centers damaged by disease or injuries
