The film begins with Hutter leaving Wisborg to travel to Orlok's isolated castle. There, he discovers that the Count is a vampire with plans to move to Wisborg, bringing with him a deadly plague. Meanwhile, Ellen, left at home, begins to dream of Orlok and feels an eerie connection to him. Her vulnerability and repressed desires become central themes as the tension between the characters escalates.
