Unfortunately, many grants come with strings attached and organizations are determined to get a return on their investment, which is often counterproductive from the artist’s perspective. They talk about finding your voice as an artist, dealing with the business side of the work, and the importance of figuring out what you expect your art to do for you. Some do it for pleasure, some for their own sanity, and yet others want to make a living from their art – it’s all about being clear about what this looks like for you.
