Here is our very long and unanticipated review of Booksmart (2019), Olivia Wilde's directorial debut. This is our second installment of our March podcasts (let's not talk about how late this is) celebrating women. Booksmart is a new and refreshing take on High School comedies with two woke, feminist protagonists, so obviously a perfect choice for our March theme. 

Also, yes, our Europe trip did get cancelled :(

For March, we wanted to watch films in honor of Irish-American heritage month as well as Women's history month. Our first pick for this month is "Brooklyn" (2015)! Directed by John Crowley and starring our favorite gal, Saoirse Ronan, this film features both a timeless romance and an authentic Irish immigrant story woven through the themes of identity and finding your home. 

Here is our second and final episode for February/Black History Month. This week we decided to switch it up and watch a silent film,"Within Our Gates" (1920) by Oscar Micheaux, one of the first films by an African American director. "Within Our Gates" was made right after the race riots in 1919 and was a response to "Birth of a Nation" (1915). Micheaux does not hold back on showing what life is truly like for black people in America, so much so that some theaters refused to screen the film because they thought some scenes were too graphic. Check it out if you want a truly unique movie experience!
