The Pharisees tried to judge Jesus for eating on the Sabbath calling it work . Jesus reminded them of David eating the consecrated bread he'd taken from the Sanctuary, reserved for the priests. Both David and Jesus were anointed Kings, Jesus announced that he, The Son of Man, is the Lord of The Sabbath. Jesus was demonstating through the story of the man with the withered hand that the question in this incident should have been whether or not healing was working on the Sabbath but that this and every action should ask; is this going to save life or destroy it.
In 2 Corinthians Paul uses three words to explain what the whole picture of what it means to be God's people looks like. 1. GRACE consists precisely in living for the good of being God's people rather that hanging onto silver and gold for dear life. 2. GENEROSITY is rewarded and giving generously is a complete portrait of a wise and God-fearing person who knows how to be generous with money. Paul wants the Corinthians to see this as a portrait of themselves. FAITHFULNESS , God's promises to us and our own behavior towards others, especially the poor, is again a biblical portrait Paul is inviting us into as we discover a whole new identity.
