  • #AskDenise - Ep.2: The Habits That Affect Attraction

    Send us Fan Mail

💬 What should Denise answer next? Leave your question in the comments.💬

**Can getting too comfortable in a relationship affect your partner’s attraction to you? And what happens when you stop taking care of yourself, stop trusting your partner, or expect them to do all the housework?**

Welcome to Episode 2 of #AskDenise — where your Internet Aunty shares her honest opinions and answers your questions about life, love, relationships, family, and everything in between.

This time, Denise is getting REAL about the everyday habits that can make or break a relationship. 😂 From personal hygiene and bad breath to trust issues, body odor, and the household responsibilities that somehow still become “women’s work,” we’re talking about the things people might notice about their partners but feel too uncomfortable to say out loud.

Denise explains why taking care of yourself shouldn't stop just because you're comfortable in a relationship, how poor hygiene can affect romance and attraction, and why loving someone doesn't mean you should stop putting effort into yourself.

But that's not all! We also get into trust, insecurity, and intuition in relationships. If you've been hurt before, how do you know whether your doubts are coming from past experiences or whether your partner is actually giving you a reason not to trust them? And when trust has been broken, whose responsibility is it to rebuild it?

Plus, we discuss personal hygiene habits, the debate over washcloths versus washing with your hands, why some men still expect women to handle the housework, and why boys need to learn how to take care of themselves, too.

As always, Denise brings her own life experience, strong opinions, and a little humor to conversations that deserve to happen more often.

Because healthy relationships aren't just about finding the right person. They're also about how you show up, how you treat each other, and the everyday habits that help keep love, respect, and attraction alive.

😂 Now we want to hear from you: Is it fair to expect your partner to maintain the same level of hygiene and effort they had when you were dating? And should men and women share responsibility for keeping a home clean?

Drop your thoughts in the comments!

#ASKDENISE is an ongoing series. What should Denise answer next? Leave your questions in the comments for a future episode.

  • You should NEED Your Partner? (Interdependence)

    Send us Fan Mail

How much should you actually depend on your partner?

In Part 1 of our conversation about independence in relationships, we talked about maintaining your individuality and making sure you don't lose yourself when you fall in love.

Now we're talking about the other side of the equation: interdependence.

Because being independent doesn't mean you have to do everything alone.

In this episode of Notes To Young People, we're getting real about the ways we rely on our partners — from emotional support and advice to finances, fixing things, problem-solving, planning, and simply having someone who can say, “I got it.”

But where is the line between healthy dependence and codependency?

    We talk about:

❤️ Why you should be able to lean on your partner without losing your independence
🧠 How a partner can help you see your blind spots and remind you of your value
💬 Why having someone to talk to can be just as important as practical help
💰 Financial independence vs. allowing your partner to support you
🚗 The everyday things we depend on our partners to handle
🤝 What it actually means to have a dependable partner
🛠️ Why knowing how to solve problems — or knowing who to call — matters in a relationship
📱 The importance of having a network outside of your romantic relationship
    ⚖️ Codependency vs. interdependence
🌱 Why you should continue working toward your “dream self” even while you're building a life with someone

We also get into what women and men may look for when choosing someone they can trust, rely on, and build a life with — and why effort, responsibility, resourcefulness, and being able to show up when things get difficult can matter just as much as romantic chemistry.

Because a healthy relationship isn't two people becoming one person.

It's two whole people choosing to lean on each other without completely losing themselves.

    That's the conversation.

At Notes To Young People, we're not here to pretend we have every answer. We're sharing real conversations, real experiences, different generations, and the lessons we wish somebody had taught us sooner — so young women and men can make more informed choices when it comes to dating, relationships, love, marriage, and building a healthy long-term partnership.

    💬 QUESTION FOR YOU:
What is ONE thing you believe you should be able to depend on your partner for?

Tell us: How do you stay independent while still allowing yourself to depend on someone you love?

  • #AskDenise (Ep.1) The Pressure Women Face

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to Episode 1 of #AskDenise — where your Internet Aunty answers your questions about life, love, relationships, family, money, and everything in between.

For our first episode, Denise gets into a BIG one: marriage, children, divorce, financial independence, and the pressure women face to follow a certain path.

After being married for 20 years, raising four children before divorce, and entering into a now 10 year relationship, Denise shares what she learned from her own experience — including why she believes you should always have your own money, why you shouldn't have children just because you expect them to take care of you when you're older,  and what she thinks about the “trad wife” lifestyle.

She also answers a question from someone whose parents are still living together despite being separated, and talks about how parents' relationships can shape the way their children view love and marriage.

And, as always, Denise has opinions. 😂

  • Are You Losing Yourself In Relationships?

    Send us Fan Mail

Is it possible to love someone deeply without completely losing yourself? 💔 In this episode of Notes to Young People, we dive heavy into the battle between hyper-independence and codependency in modern relationships.

Our childhood friend Rebecca joins the couch to share how she navigates a 7-year age gap with her boyfriend, why she had to stay single to "figure herself out" , and the exact habits required to keep your individuality alive while sharing a life with someone else.

We talk about everything from the psychology of "parallel play", the absolute necessity of financial independence for women, to calling out the subtle red flags when a partner secretly tries to control your schedule.

If you've ever struggled to balance your dream self with your relationship status...

    or

If you've ever thought  “Am I losing myself in this relationship?”...

    or

If you've wondered “How do healthy couples balance independence and closeness?”

    THIS CONVERSATION IS FOR YOU!

    Our family debates:

    -how relationships can change people
-maintaining your identity while in love
    -healthy vs unhealthy attachment
    -independence in long-term relationships
-becoming the version of yourself someone else wants

    – Should you ever stay in a relationship if an ex is still in the picture?

This conversation is for anyone navigating modern dating, healing after breakups, or questioning what’s normal versus what’s not acceptable in relationships.

Where do you draw the line between attraction and control? 👇

In this powerful Notes To Young People conversation, we unpack the difference between healthy preferences,  and controlling behavior in relationships. From gym habits, hairstyles, nails, and fashion choices to confidence, self-esteem, and identity — we discuss why self-maintenance should always be for YOU, not to transform yourself into something your partner wants.

    We talk openly about:

🪞 Maintaining your appearance to your own standard

🍎 When doing something your partner likes is healthy — and when it crosses a line

📈 People who choose low self-esteem individuals as partners for control

✨ Confidence, identity, and refusing to water yourself down

🔎 The pressure to “dress down” or shrink yourself in relationships

🗣️ How different personality types (introverted vs expressive) can impact communication and expectations

❤️ Loving someone without losing who you are

This episode is about self-worth, boundaries, and building relationships where you’re fully accepted by both yourself and your partner— not edited.

  • When to Leave 😢 (Part 3)

    Send us Fan Mail

How do you really know when it’s time to walk away from a relationship? In this final part of our “When to Leave” series, we’re diving deep into more dealbreakers — the kind that shake your peace, disturb your spirit, and make you question who you’ve become in love.

From bad communication and selfishness, to secret families and affair babies (yes, we said it!), we’re calling out the red flags that we personally would NEVER put up with. Some of these are rapid-fire rounds, some are full-on, detailed discussions — but all of them are REAL.

We know everybody’s line in the sand looks different, but if you find yourself nodding “yes” to too many of these… it might be time to ask yourself some hard questions.

🛑 Have you changed for the worse?
🛑 Can you be your full self?
🛑 Would you want your kids to turn out like them?
🛑 If they didn't change those flaws you tolerate in the next 10 years, would you like how your future looks?

    Let’s talk about it.

✨ This episode is raw, honest, and straight from the heart — from a Caribbean mama and her grown kids, sharing love, life, and hard-earned wisdom across generations.

💬 Drop a comment if you’ve ever had to walk away... or if we missed one!
