The ’Len’ Zone

Notre Dame Fall Practice #2

Listen Later

Welcome to The Len Zone—your all-access pass to Notre Dame Football, where insight meets energy from the practice field to the press room. I’m your host, Len Clark, coming to you from South Bend with a Fall Camp update that’s filled with optimism, competition, and a clear identity.

Let’s kick things off with the big picture:
Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock says this summer was one of the best he’s ever seen. The Irish brought energy, development, and a full-team buy-in to offseason workouts. And now, as fall camp rolls on, Coach Marcus Freeman’s message of “consistency and trust” is driving the team’s identity.

The quarterback competition? It’s not just about who starts—it’s about how the entire offense is rising.

Freshman CJ Carr is impressing coaches with his maturity, coachability, and rapid development.
Kenny Minchey has made a leap since spring, playing faster and with confidence.
And veteran Sam Hartman brings leadership that’s described as authentic, steady, and respected.
[SEGMENT: TIGHT ENDS]
Now to the tight ends—a unit Denbrock calls one of the deepest and most versatile he’s ever coached.

Eli Raridon is back to full health and dominating with his athleticism.
Ty Washington is gaining momentum, both mentally and physically.
Kevin Bauman is leading by example with a detail-first approach.
And freshman James Flanigan is showing early flashes of big-time potential.

The offense? It’s designed to be multiple, physical, and explosive. But more than that, it’s built on clean execution and sharp communication. Coaches are blending what worked in the spring with fresh wrinkles, keeping the players engaged and adaptable.

Leadership is player-driven—the kind that grows from within.
Freeman’s leadership council meets regularly, and there’s a real sense of unity. Players are holding each other accountable, pushing one another, and celebrating the daily wins. It's a culture of supportive competition—and it’s contagious.

This year’s freshman class is already earning praise. They’re focused, mature, and most importantly—not overwhelmed. Coaches are making sure they get their reps and chances to develop under the lights of camp. And speaking of lights—game-day pressure is being simulated every day, with red zone drills, crowd noise, and 2-minute scenarios all designed to build poise.

Here are a few words that sum up the mindset:

“Every rep counts.” — Mike Denbrock
“Be the most dependable unit on the field.” — Tight end mantra
“Trust is the foundation of what we do.” — Gino Guidugli
And a closing reminder from the staff: “We’re building something special.”

That’s a wrap for this edition of The Len Zone. Stay tuned as we continue to bring you the latest from Notre Dame Fall Camp all the way to kickoff in Miami on August 31st. Until next time—this is Len Clark. Go Irish!
