November 16: Infrastructure Bill, US Global Presence, Climate Change, Jan. 6 Attacks, and more!

Listen Later

This week, we’re taking a look at the fluctuating tension between parties, highlighting the new bipartisan infrastructure bill, but also the increasing anti-democratic tilt from Republican leadership:

  1. The bipartisan infrastructure bill passed the largest transportation bill in US history. While the bill is introducing tremendous upgrades to our roads, bridges, airports, and waterways, it still earned plenty of strong attacks from Trump loyalists.
  2. Globally, frustration is boiling over the recent COP26 and UN Conference, where leaders made steady but slow progress against climate change, ultimately walking away with weak commitments that left advocates dissatisfied.
  3. The Jan. 6 attack continued to make headlines this week: Steve Bannon turned himself in to the FBI, Mark Meadows ignored a subpoena and refused to testify, and Trump participated in an interview where he defended his supporter’s most aggressive threats towards Vice President Mike Pence. Regardless, the Republican party is doubling-down on support for the former president, and fiercely attacking any members who stand against his ideology.
