Great writer/great romance
If you want to write a novel, study Colleen Hoover because this author really has it down. Lots of emotion, fascinatingly broken characters who rise above their grief/flaws/fears to become worthy of the love that awaits them. I truly amazed at how good a writer Colleen Hoover is. The subject of this particular story of her(my third), is that of a former teen star on her way up until a fire melts away her face and her dreams(paraphrased that line from the author). Fallon's father is a movie store(small screen) and her former manager until a fire at his house leaves his daughter too scared to continue to work in front of the camera.
One last lunch(on the anniversary of the fire, November 9th) with her father and Fallon is set to leave for New York city and the stage to try her hand at theater. Her argument with her father is interrupted by a handsome eighteen year old young man who slides into the booth next to Fallon and pretends to be her boyfriend. Fallon is shocked, flattered and appalled at her meeting with Ben, but goes along with the rouse to get back at her father. Afterwards, she finds Ben fascinating and since Fallon is leaving that night for New York, agrees to meet next year at the same time and place on November 9th again.
A lot can happen in a year, and does because this is a romance novel and if the lovers don't travel a rocky road to their love, then there's no reason to keep reading. Fallon and Ben don't disappoint. They do end up meeting once a year with no contact in-between, while Ben-the-writer, writes a book about their unusual romance. But Ben has a secret that he's terrified of Fallon finding out about, and Fallon is terrified of exposing her scared face to the world both in dating and in her pursuit of a life on stage.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this novel, and the characters are very appealing and not likely to disappear from my mind for a long time. Colleen Hoover is an outstanding writer and one of my go-to writers when I need a new book.
Great read!
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but this was my least favorite Hoover book. I still read it as fast as possible and enjoyed it, but I knew I would.
