In 1988, the World Series featured two teams from California – the
Dodgers and the As. Game 1 is remembered for one swing in the 9th inning
that won the game so improbably that the announcer said “I don’t
believe what I just saw.” Kirk Gibson who had injuries to both legs and
could barely walk was summoned to pinch hit in the bottom of the
9th inning against a Hall of Fame closer named Dennis Eckersley.
Somehow, Kirk Gibson hit a home run turning a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4
win. They say seeing is believing, but sometimes what you see is hard to
believe. And most times, it is hard to believe without seeing. But
Hebrews tells us that faith is exactly that. In this part of Jesus’
discussion with His disciples, Jesus talks again about peace. His
disciples say they can now believe because they see. And Jesus
disagrees. There is power in learning how to face trouble in this world
without losing your peace. Let’s see if we can hear from Jesus on how
finding that kind of peace can change the world.
