From the Mat to the State Office

Getting to know Assistant Director Ron Higdon, who started as a university wrestling coach, shaping young minds and bodies on the mat. But life had other plans! He traded in his whistle for a desk job at the Nebraska State Activities Association (NSAA). Turns out, he's pretty good at this whole "running a state sports organization" thing. He's been a big player in getting more opportunities for student-athletes across Nebraska. He was a strong supporter and a champion for girls' wrestling. He's helped pave the way for more young women to get into the sport as it's now a sanctioned NSAA sport and has two classes for 2024 along with their days. They brought state softball to the UNO Mavs facility as if that wasn't enough. It's been a huge hit, drawing in thousands of fans. He's already looking forward to even bigger crowds next year.
