NSP EP0008: Original Poem: Psalm 7 - 19

Listen Later

In this, the 8th Episode of the North Star Podcast, host Robert Jenkins presents an original poem called, "Psalm 7-19".
Psalm 7-19-19, 1920
Seems like nothing is as good
As it used be
All them old songs
and all them old scenes
are now put away
like childish things
I claim to be a man, yet
things toy with me
for all that I pretend to be
more than I am
all my dreams remain
just that
yet I pray I never reach
my potential;
I wanna be
forever
limitless
Like oceans of grain
and flags flapping at midnight
just before the snow
some pain is sweeter
than can ever be known
or expressed
like how I
I can feel the absence
of all those
who came before me;
see their
portraits turning in my
mind like a
wheel in the sky
African, Welsh
and Kiowa Comanche
locking arms in my DNA dancing;
pausing briefly, to rest with you a
while
Oh child, things get no easier.
It's all on you.
who you gon' call and
what you gon' do?
Probably just what I was born
to:
Spit, scrap and fight.
Just because
the stairs ain't made out of crystal
don't mean I'm gon' lie on a silver
platter and submit to
these vultures and parasites above me
May God Bless and keep everyone I love
and all those who love me.
