If a job is non-essential, does that mean the person who performs it is, too? I don't think so. If your job puts food on the table, it is by definition, "essential".
The words you use influence the thoughts you think. Your thoughts influence your actions. When you let others change the meaning of the words you use, you allow them to subtly influence your thoughts, and therefore your actions.
