We are in a fight. Our adversary is age-old. It is the lust for power and control that dwells in the hearts of men. It is the evil which lurks in high places, the killer which lies behind pasty, placid faces.

Freedom is not free; it can and very well may extract a heavy toll. Each of us must fight with the all the rage and magic and we can muster. This poem, this attitude, is my new Kung Fu. Come, let's begin then!

If the devil is in the details

there must be demons on the lips

of lovers, idols, haters, parents

and strangers; that whole cast of minor players

who impact our lives so greatly.

Who drop bombs upon us, so easily

and casually laying waste our dreams

and scattering our gifts to the wind.

It seems

I’ve been in a bomb shelter for

most of my life, cowering, huddling,

spider sense troubling, tingling,

antennae quivering, waiting for the

all clear

Which will never come.
