President-elect Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on all imports from Mexico and Canada as one of his first executive actions. He stated the tariffs will remain until both nations curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. Trump also proposed an additional 10 percent tariff on imports from China if the country fails to stop fentanyl from entering the United States.

Special counsel Jack Smith has dropped the charges in his election interference case against Trump and also moved to dismiss his appeal in the classified documents case. To unpack what this means for the future of these cases, NTD spoke with Paul Kamenar, lead counsel at the National Legal and Policy Center.
