In a daring mission, SpaceX carried out the first-ever private spacewalk on Thursday. The Polaris Dawn crew spent 2 1/2 years training with SpaceX mission simulations and hands-on learning.

Tropical Storm Francine is passing over Louisiana, with many areas experiencing flooding and power outages. Francine made landfall Wednesday as a hurricane before quickly weakening to a tropical storm. Officials said waters remain high in New Orleans as heavy rain spreads across Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has postponed a vote on a temporary spending bill. The measure would keep the government running for another six months. The bill was scheduled for a vote on Wednesday, but Democrats are overwhelmingly opposed, while some Republicans have also voiced their opposition.
