While many of the most popular Christmas hymns originated in the 1800s, the oldest carols are embedded in the biblical story of Christmas. They express the deepest emotions and self-understanding of the characters within the story while also capturing the piety and faith of early Christians. They give us a window into understanding the incarnation that can motivate and inspire our faith today.
