World War II was unlike any another other war, it was a war of aggression and hatred with a nearly unimaginable death toll attached to it. The way in which the Nazi's used the Concentration Camps, and the plans that they had for the rest of Europe were so horrendous that they were deemed criminal in nature. Thus a new way was needed after the defeat of the Third Reich to punish the offenders, and ensure peace. That was the purpose of the Nuremberg Trials, which set up new standards for the way the world looked at and dealt with war.
