In this episode of Nutmeg Nation, Carlene sits down with Maria Myers, President of the Grenada Day Association and Spice Isle Association, to talk about this year’s much-anticipated Grenada Day Festival in Toronto.
Now in its 18th year, the festival is moving to a bigger venue — Pioneer Village (Village at Black Creek) — with an expected turnout of thousands. Maria shares the history behind Grenada Day, its roots in celebrating the culture and heritage of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique, and the importance of bringing the diaspora together in Canada.
From free oil down on entry, live performances by Grenadian artists like Talpree, and a surprise international guest (visa pending!), to a family-friendly atmosphere with food, vendors, music, and cultural showcases — this is a must-attend event.
Maria also opens up about how the organization supports Grenadians both in the Caribbean and in Toronto, from seniors’ programs to community aid. Plus, she reminds us: come early to enjoy everything from the opening ceremony at 2 PM to the prime minister’s special appearance.
🎶 Grenada Day Festival 2025 takes place on Saturday, August 23, 12 PM – 8 PM at Pioneer Village.
