O Lord Our God, Save Us

Listen Later

The theme of this sermon is fear. What will we do with fear? Where will we turn to when we are afraid? The conclusion is that deliverance only comes through Jesus Christ. In this passage, an army was coming against Judah and intimidated the city. The enemy will bring worst-case scenarios to cause us to fear. When we face fear, the temptation is to lose confidence in God. But when Hezekiah heard the intimidation, he instead acknowledged his own helplessness and went to the Lord. He didn’t trust in himself, but sought God. He also sought direction and guidance from the community of faith. We are called as a body, and we are not meant to go through trials alone. It takes humility to go to the community with our trials, but we need the prayers of each other. Isaiah spoke words of encouragement to Hezekiah in his trial. Do not be afraid. We have no need to fear because the Lord is about to do a work of deliverance. When the enemy hears that we are not afraid, he will step up his fear tactics. He will cause us to question God and His ability to deliver us. Turn again to the house of the Lord. Remember God’s promises and how He has delivered you in the past. Spread your fears before the Lord and leave your situation with Him. Acknowledge that it is too much for you, and declare God’s omnipotence and sovereignty. When you come to the Lord in trials, acknowledge who He is. You can trust Him! Hold on to the fact that God will not allow any temporary evil that does not clear the way for greater good. Acknowledge that He is a God of mercy and therefore we can come to Him through Christ. God is greater than anything we are facing. The deliverance we need will only come through Christ.
