Obedience

Listen Later

For many, the word obedience can feel heavy, but in Exodus 19, we see a different perspective. God invites Israel into a covenant, not out of fear or obligation, but out of His mercy, grace, and the deliverance He provided. This "swift deliverance" from Egypt wasn’t just about freedom; it was an invitation into a loving relationship. God calls His people to obedience; not as a burden, but as a reflection of His character and purpose, so that He can dwell among them and pour out His blessings.

If this is the case, then we really need to ask ourselves why do we obey: do we do it because He saved us? Or do we obey to get saved?

Bible Passage:

“'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.'” Exodus 19:4-6 (NIV)
