Oct 25, 2023 ~ Genesis 12:3 and the Moral Imperative to Speak Out
In our reading of the Torah portion, Lech Lecha
this week, we read these words from Genesis 12:1-3:
Now the LORD had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall
I will bless you And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall
be blessed.”
It is easy to say those words, “I stand with Israel, and I will bless Israel.” But do we really mean them? I believe we are at a
crossroads. The God of Israel is putting each and every one of us to a test: Will we put these words into action? Will we take action to stand with and support Israel during this war with Hamas?
