October 1 - The Quake That Shook Up, Where Nixon Grew Up

It was the strongest since the San Fernando earthquake of 1971 and its shaking effect was felt as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas. There was a long series of aftershocks that continued to startle and frighten Southern California for days after the initial 6.1 magnitude earthquake, further disturbing a population who already were on their last nerve.
