The Columbus Day Storm of 1962 was playfully nicknamed “the Big Blow”. It totally sounds exactly like something you’d hear out of Seattle or Portland :-) But it was actually originally Typhoon Freda. This powerful Pacific Northwest windstorm beat down the West Coast of Canada and the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States on October 12, 1962, this day in weather history.
