The ABSCAM scandal would cause one Senator and six Representatives to be brought up on corruption charges. The scheme was fairly simple, as it had FBI agents pose as Arab sheiks or their business associates bribe politicians and government officials, all of which was recorded on videotape. Yet despite all being convicted, only one member of Congress was actually expelled for the scandal. This incredibly rare action, it had not happened since the Civil War, was carried out in the case of Michael Myers because Myers was the only one who refused to resign his seat or not run for reelection.
