Publisher's Summary:
"I felt torn between two worlds. Each with its own mystery. One more captivating than the other, but the other more real and breathing."
It took Lauren and her husband 10 years to achieve their dream - reaching primitive tribes in remote regions of Nepal. But while Sam treks into the Himalayas for weeks at a time, finding passion and purpose in his work among the needy, Lauren and Ryan stay behind, their daily reality more taxing than inspiring. For them, what started as a calling begins to feel like the family's undoing.
At the peak of her isolation and disillusion, a friend from Lauren's past enters her life again. But as her communication with Aidan intensifies, so does the tension of coping with the present while reengaging with the past. It's 13-year-old Ryan who most keenly bears the brunt of her distraction.
Intimate and bold, Of Stillness and Storm weaves profound dilemmas into a tale of troubled love and honorable intentions gone awry.

Illuminates the sacrifices and potential trauma of the missionary kid
Although this novel is perhaps the extreme example of how missionary kids can potentially be pushed to the sidelines of an overzealous mission, it holds an important place in the bookshelf of all those wanting to help or befriend missionary kids. It also poignantly displays how a missionary wife potentially suppresses their own needs due to the concept of being a "submissive" and "good" missionary wife. And even explores the concept that some missionaries may lose sight of the true nature of God and relationship with him as they focus on following a man-made calling. Of course, it is important for any reader to realize that this is not the story of every missionary rather a small minority of them. It is beautifully written and poignant and the truths and even the warnings will certainly stay with you, especially if you yourself are a missionary!
Wow! I won't forget this one.
There were moments this story took my breathe away. The author crafts a story so real and characters to identify with. This is fiction at its finest.

It will make you feel uncomforatable at times but the reality of the story keeps your emotions going from high to low and back again. A real page turner and the writing is superb ...
Great read! Gripping and emotionally captivating.
Great read written by someone who has been there and gets it. Powerful and touching. I had a hard time putting it down.
Very well written
Very well written and good story plot. We read this as a book club at our church. We all enjoyed it and "felt" what the main character was going through.
