Somehow I always manage to insert my random internet hyperfixiation of the week into the conversation, which this week was Off Campus so we did talk about that a little bit.

What we didn’t mention though is that Jen ALSO did the stuntwork for Obsession and she helped perform that scene that made all of our souls leave our body (when Bear and Sarah are in the car).

With each interview I feel more and more like the sets of these movies I admire are less mythological places like Olympus, and more real places that you can go to. I guess if there’s anything I want you guys to take away from this interview (and that I also came away with) is to never underestimate the comfortability of everyone on set. As Jen puts it, everyone has different experiences and you never know what people have been through, so check in, and be kind.

I think anyone who listens to the episode will be able to tell Alyson and I had a jolly good time talking about the things we love. Editing was not an easy task so I must thank my friends Richi and Laura for helping me and also ask you, the listener, to excuse the interferences in the first 10 minutes. After that, the rest of the episode flows so seamlessly it doesn’t even feel like 50 minutes.

It didn’t make the final cut (because the point is I interview the guests), but I asked Alyson if she had any questions for me at the end, and we talked a bit about my future plans and what I want for this podcast. It felt healing to feel the support of someone on the other side of the world. Someone who has been on the same situation as you: trying to break into a very large — and at times overcrowded— industry. I hope this episode does just that for anyone listening as well: makes you feel seen, and drives your hunger and curiosity for the art of filmmaking.

More and more I’m believing that one should never stick to one “niche” and that the whole bulk of your personality, however contradictory might be, is something to wear on your sleeve. If I hadn’t begun to do that a few months back I wouldn’t have had the courage to email Alyson because, what the hell do I know about podcasting or interviewing? And yet I was always curious about the two.

I encourage all of you to follow Alyson on instagram “alysonpickett.” She just got a new stunt reel out today with one of her Backrooms scenes in it. Obviously mild spoilers for the movie there and here in the episode. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did prepping and recording this first episode, of hopefully many to come (notice how I don’t say editing as well.)
