The Office Mommy, your Executive Assistant guide, explains how powerless CEOs really are. They’ll never admit it, but maintaining their position of power requires a lot of kissing butt. Ninety percent of their job is making sure they still have a job. They have to prove themselves to someone and toeveryone else, they couldn’t care less about pleasing.

The confusing hierarchy includes a completely separatereporting structure at home. The CEO’s wife is dependent on the income of the CEO and the CEO is dependent on his wife doing literally everything else for him. Which makes him more dependent on her than she is on him.

This complicates the job of the Office Mommy. Competing for his attention and needing his signature on many documents, the Office Mommy is at the mercy of the whims of the CEO’s wife. A good Executive Assistant doesn’t let this get her down! In the end, the CEO will see why he needs the OfficeMommy most of all. The Office Mommy protects the job, the income that the CEO’s wife depends on. The key is making sure the CEO understands that.

For a woman giving advice about being the best executive assistant there is, she sure does seem to make some rookie mistakes. Like getting a little too involved with her boss. Sleeping over, texting his ex, using his phone without his permission: some days the Office Mommy seems more like Mr. Howard’s volatile girlfriend than she does his assistant.

The Office Mommy knows that your CEO isn’t as special as hethinks he is. He’s just like everyone else because he’s completely addicted to his phone. Which wouldn’t be so bad if that kept him permanently out of everyone’s hair.

But a CEO’s job is “idea”. Not good idea. Not practicalidea. Just idea. Lots of idea all the time. Being glued to his phone guarantees that Mr. Howard’s going to have some wild ideas and impossible expectations of the real world. Especially if the thing in his phone is actually just his ex-executive assistant, Trisha. Because who knows what horrible thing she’s saying about the Office Mommy (his current executive assistant) to Mr. Howard?

The Office Mommy thought for sure she’d already seen hercurrent CEO, Mr. Howard’s, worst day, but that was nothing compared to this past week. You can tell a lot about what a man is going through from his actions. Throwinga stapler at your head, stomping around the office, literally shouting at his assistant for taking notes too loudly, and other subtle hints just like that let you know: he’s had a pretty poor day.

So who to blame when a grown man behaves like a toddler? Usually, a woman. Any woman will do. In this case, the Office Mommy has someone very specific in mind. Mr. Howard’s ex-executive assistant sure has a way of ruining everyone’s day with her texts to the big boss.

As Trisha becomes a growing problem, Office Mommy starts to see just how far out of her depth she might be with this particular Mr. Howard.

The Office Mommy explains how CEOs praise and then discard people. She knows that a CEO is just a charismatic leader and they have no real interest in the people. But the Office Mommy doesn’t seem to think she’s one ofthe people.

Maybe she isn’t. Afterall, the boss (alias - Mr. Howard) choseher to have lunch with his wife (alias – Mrs. Howard) while he was off wooing another CEO. Certainly a man wouldn’t brush his wife off on any old person, especially not on her own birthday.

Ever the diligent executive assistant, Office Mommy use theopportunity to get to know more about Mr. Howard’s checkered past. Maybe it’s more chessy than checkered. Chess boards have checkered patterns but also havehorses, like Mr. Howard’s previous job in the Equestrian Training school.

CEOs are “working” men. Like most working “adults”, they have a difficult time making friends. Throw into the mix how unsufferable they are and it’s down near impossible.

Executive Assistants are so busy being “Office Mommies” they don’t have the time to be “Office Buddies” as well. Let’s face it, even Mom needs a break sometimes. CEOs are people, and statistically, they are also men. It’sa fact that sucks, but it’s a fact. And a man’s gotta eat. Literally. A thing that they should know but for some reason they are still surprised by this every time meal time comes around. They struggle to know the difference betweenbeing angry and being hangry, and no one is going to call them out for it.

Especially not their executive assistant, who’s main job isloyalty at all cost. So while his Office Mommy can’t tell him he’s being obnoxious because he’s starving, she does have to find a way to feed him. Like a toddler who must be coaxed with airplane noises, CEOs have to be convinced that, no, they aren’t too busy to eat. As much as they don’t seem it, they arestill humans.

As long as Office Mommy is doing a great job taking care ofhim, there’s no reason for ANY CEO to go crawling back to the arms of his last ex-ecutive assistant. Mr. Howard is no exception and Trisha better watch her back.

CEOs have many skills… probably. But those skills do notinclude technology. The cause of this : unclear. Though it could be the fact that technology is ever changing and growing and the last thing they bothered to learn was how to negotiate their wage.

In addition to being their “Office Mommy”, as executiveassistant to the CEO, you are expected to be his personal IT as well. Might aswell get ahead of the issue and control of his devices before he can cause too much harm.

The more you do for him, the more you can rest easy knowingyou are completely irreplaceable. Probably.

CEOs don’t sleep like normal people. They want you tobelieve this is a good thing. But really, it just disrupts the entire world around them. When most people don’t get good rest, they can’t function well throughout the day. Since a CEO always has an entourage of helpers, functioningisn’t required. And if they get a little grumpy pants because they skipped their nap, no one is going to call them out for it.

The hard part as an Office Mommy is that you need yoursleep. You don’t also get someone else to absorb the stress and work for you. The problem comes when your CEO expects you to wake up at four to answer their messagesor get them added to the waitlist for their favorite national park so they can take out their new RV that costs more monthly than your rent. Setting the boundary early is key and Office Mommy is here to show you how.

CEOs are angry men, allowed to run rampant as the worldbends to their will. Only an Office Mommy can keep them at bay and even she can only do so much. Like your IBS, preventing angry flare-ups takes a lot of workbut is well worth it. This starts before your CEO ever arrives. Start by CEO proofing their office.

This week, your Office Mommy tells you some steps you cantake to get things ready before the due date of your newest CEO. You never know when a CEO is going to hate harsh lighting, be repulsed by the scent of coffee, or stick a knife in a light socket. A good Office Mommy will be prepare for allof the possibilities.

Being an Office Mommy may not be a financially rewarding job, but it’s also not an emotionally rewarding one. Make sure to keep your spending habits in line and your new boss at arm’s length. There’s no telling what could happen if he gets too close.
