* Reduce the lag in your Cox Internet provider Cox is offering a $15 / month service that it dubs Cox Elite Gamer, an internet bill add-on that the company claims will optimize the connection between players and video game servers “it does not alter speed in any way, nor does it prioritize any traffic over others on our network.” Cox doesn’t want people thinking of this as a “fast lane.” Instead, it’s about cutting down on congestion and the number of hops between your gaming PC and whatever server you’re trying to reach. Cox is reselling a PC-only game service—there's no net neutrality issue here.
Specifically, the company claims Cox Elite Gamer can deliver 34 percent less lag, 45 percent less jitter, and 55 percent fewer ping spikes when compared to its regular, everyday internet service. Other network traffic on your account is unaffected
* FCC approves SpaceX’s plans to fly internet-beaming satellites in a lower orbit The Federal Communications Commission has approved SpaceX’s request to fly a large swath of its future internet-beaming satellites at a lower orbit than originally planned. The approval was a major regulatory hurdle the company needed to clear in order to start launching its first operational satellites from Florida next month..* FIRST QUESTION! - Paraphrasing from one of our listeners: How do they all these satellites orbit the flat-Earth?* Under SpaceX’s original agreement with the commission, the company had permission to launch 4,425 Starlink satellites into orbits that ranged between 1,110 to 1,325 kilometers up. But then SpaceX decided it wanted to fly 1,584 of those satellites in different orbits, thanks to what it had learned from its first two test satellites, TinTin A and B. Instead of flying them at 1,150 kilometers, the company now wants to fly them much lower at 550 kilometers.* Seems like a crap-ton of satellites right? I asked Google how many satellites are currently ‘orbiting’ the Earth. A: 4,987 So doubling that number seems like a HUGE undertaking and what is too much?* Show us the money * Sony- Game sales revenue surged by 19% year-on-year to $20.7 billion. This is thanks to an increase in game software sales, and the growing subscriber base for PlayStation Plus. * Sony has released its financial results for the past year, reporting $78.1 billion (So Gaming is a HUGE percentage, something like 26.5% of SONY’s yearly revenue)* Sony's operating income to take a $278.3 million hit as investment increases in PlayStation 5. (3.55%?)* Sony will not release new console any time before March 31, 2020. * Microsoft - Gaming revenue rose 5% year-over-year to $2.36 billion,
