Happy New Year!

Nami and Belle share memories from Christmases Past, talk about Christmases Present, and consider how we might envision Christmases Future. Belle and Nami talk about Halloween, how they celebrated as children, and how their attitudes have changed over the years. They also talk about Reformation Day, the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Whittenberg Church in 1517. Have you ever read the 95 theses? Martin Luther was brought to trial and the court attempted to force him to recant. Luther's response is often quoted: "I cannot choose but adhere to the Word of God, which has possession of my conscience; nor can I possibly, nor will I even make any recantation, since it is neither safe nor honest to act contrary to conscience! Here I stand; I cannot do otherwise, so help me God! Amen." May we all enjoy a day of celebration, but also remember the courage of Martin Luther.

Owen Meredith, the second Lord Lytton (whoever that is!) is quoted as saying, "We may live without poetry, music and art; We may live without conscience, and live without heart; We may live without friends; we may live without books; But civilized man cannot live without cooks." Haha! That may have been the case at one time. Nami and Belle have two guests join them and reminisce about what our grandmothers cooked. Makes our mouths water!

Family traditions are as unique as the families who make them. Traditions create memories that help establish a foundation for family values, provide families with a sense of identity, and often give continuity of family to the next generation. Traditions, whether holiday or non-holiday, are important reminders of just who we are. Grandmothers are often the ones who keep traditions that work and who establish new traditions, too!
