Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Ohio Weather Podcast for Sunday, February 22nd.
Folks, if you're in northeast Ohio tonight, buckle in. That East Coast blizzard is about to hand Lake Erie the keys. And lake effect snow is coming in hot. Light flakes start falling around 6 P.M. By 7 P.M., you're looking at near blizzard conditions. Gusts hitting 35 miles an hour. Visibility dropping to almost nothing. By Monday morning, 2 to 5 inches on the ground. Monday adds another 18 degrees to 18 degrees. Wind chills in the single digits by Monday night. That's the kind of cold that makes your teeth ache.
Now slide down to central Ohio. You're getting off easier, but not scot free. Snow showers roll in around 5 P.M. And taper off by 2 A.M. Less than an inch sticks, but northwest winds make it feel like 13 degrees by morning. Highs today barely scratch 33 degrees before dropping to 25 overnight. Watch for icy patches on your Monday commute.
Southwest Ohio? You're the lucky ones tonight. A few flurries this afternoon, then clearing skies. Lows near 25 degrees. And here's where it gets interesting. By Tuesday you're rebounding to 43 degrees. Wednesday? 54 degrees. Your neighbor in Cleveland will still be shoveling.
Winter weather advisories are up for northeast Ohio from 6 P.M. Tonight through 7 P.M. Monday. If you're anywhere near Lake Erie, avoid the roads if you can.
The week ahead tells a wild story. Monday's deep freeze loosens its grip by midweek. Temperatures climb steadily. Thursday could bring rain changing to snow up north. But by Saturday, southwest Ohio touches 61 degrees. That's a 30 degree swing from Monday's lows. Only in Ohio.
I'll be tracking those snow bands all night long.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
