Waiting is the pits. Nobody likes to wait. But, if you have to wait, and you know how to wait, waiting can be a wonderful adventure. Jesus tells us how we can wait for Him to come again. Our flesh reaction when God tells us what to do it, or how do something is to rebel. But rebellion never against God is never life-giving. We need to remember that whenever God tells us what to do or how to do it that there is love, life, and joy in it.
The parable of the ten virgins shows us how we wait for Jesus. The girls represented the bride. Their faces revealed how the bride felt about the groom. He would know by their faces if she was glad to be married to Him. As they waited for Him they needed to be prepared because they didn't know when He would arrive. Jesus tells us that five of them were foolish and five were wise. What made the difference?
The five foolish bridesmaids didn't carry any extra oil with them. They were not prepared with their own lamp oil for the groom. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5 and 6 about lamps, light, and the treasure we put our trust in. The oil that the wise girls carry with them represents an abundance of joy that they share with the bride for the groom. Waiting for Jesus can be wonderful if we can learn to wait with joy, talk up the groom, and share Him and His love with the world.
