In today's show, Kenny and Del review the 2021 western sleeper film Old Henry.

What happened to the western genre?  Westerns are as old as Hollywood itself and have had it's era of dominating theater tickets sales and Television.  But since the 90s, westerns have had a significantly reduced presence with most of them not having a theatrical window.  The last block buster Western was 2016s The Magnificent Seven  that despite starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt could not double its $90 million dollar investment.  The Magnificent Seven served as a marker that the block buster western has rode off into the sunset.

Despite big studios not investing $100 million dollars in a western film, the western has found a home as a streamer.  Several recent westerns have performed extremely well on streamers with 2021s The Harder They Fall accounting for 1.2 billion minutes of viewing in its first week exclusively on Netflix.  It seemed that folks still loved westerns, but not enough to go to the theaters.  But for those westerns that have not found their way onto streamer platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc, they get little fanfare and are relegated to word of mouth to boost their performance as a digital rental or purchase.

Today, we are featuring a western that had received numerous accolades from critics and fans, but is only available for digital rental or purchase where it has performed very well.  Made by a relatively new writer/director and starring a long time character actor in his first feature film lead role, it's unfortunate that the average cinephile hasn't given this movie a chance.  Perhaps today we can peak your interest in this unsung western.

In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into Old Henry.
