Older Women Likewise

Deborah led Israel with courage and justice, while Esther diplomatically saved her people. Tonight, Ila King, Elaine Jordan, Judy Dolan and Lauren Bassford will discuss how Christian women in secular leadership roles should exemplify biblical principles like integrity, humility and wisdom. They will suggest some ways that women who lead, whether at work or in their communities, can avoid the pitfalls of pride and compromised spiritual values.

In many ways, Christian women lead. Sometimes, leadership brings wounds and heartaches which can be difficult to endure and to survive. Tonight’s panel, Lauren Bassford, Dana Burk and Bertina Smelser led by Colleen O’Steen, will talk about how we lead, what causes the bleeding, and how we can survive these hurts from those we love.

Feelings are feedback, not fact. Just feeling like you’re saved doesn’t necessarily mean that you are! Tonight’s panel of Dana Burk, Dana Carrozza, Colleen O’Steen and Montelle White will introduce several Bible characters whose feelings did not mirror the facts. Don’t let your feelings mislead you!

In continuation of a previous discussion, Conviction v. Convenience, Lauren Bassford, Dana Burk, Dana Corrozza and Lonnie Cruse talk about how aging can affect our perceptions and behaviors in regard to living arrangements for those widowed, caring for elderly parents, evangelizing the lost and interacting with unfaithful Christians. When should we uphold convictions regardless of personal comfort? When can convenient circumstances be acceptable to godly women?

Quite often, as we age, we are said to “mellow” or become less strict about our opinions, behaviors, and expectations of others. That can be fine when it comes to opinions, but not to matters of conviction. Tonight, Lauren Bassford leads a discussion with Dana Burk, Dana Corrozza and Lonnie Cruse about how aging affects our convictions and behavior in regards to worship, Bible study and interactions with family members.

Singing is an expression of joy and gratitude that Biblical authors condone. When we glorify God in song and encourage one another, we make some of our most lasting emotional connections. Laurie Moyer and Lauren Bassford bring forward many scriptures that highlight women singers and songwriters. Sing when you’re happy or sad or discouraged or encouraged – Trust in the Lord!

Tonight, Dana Burk leads a discussion with Ruth Morris and Robin Clifton that explores how Christians can find renewal from sin, life’s burdens, and burnout through scripture, prayer, and faith.

Within the scriptures, there are examples of festive, wholesome recreation as well as self-destructive, “epic fails” in pursuit of having a good time. What does God say on the topic of recreation, and what principles are at play when we consider how to best refresh our bodies, minds and souls? Colleen and Lauren join Cindy in tonight's discussion. 

One of Matt Bassford’s writings was his regular blog. When diagnosed with ALS, he continued posting as long as he could with the understanding that Lauren would publish the blogs after his passing. Lauren, Ila and Laurie Moyer talk about the effect of a terminal diagnosis on Christians, referring to the recently published “One Last Verse” for perspective.
