Olivia Newton-John skilfully made the transition from country pop to mainstream soft rock performer in the early 1970's.

She tentatively entered show business at the age of 12 when she won a Hayley Mills lookalike contest. Later she entered a TV talent quest and went to London as her prize. Once there, she formed a duet with her friend Pat Carroll, who soon had to return home to Australia - and so Olivia went solo.

She became part of Cliff Richards' touring show and the rest is history.
