On That!: EP 2 / The Hidden Biases of Media Coverage (Part 2)

Listen Later

Traditional news sources (such as CBC, CNN, and The Economist) have made current issues and events accessible and digestible for the average person. However as the news stories are a product of the journalists and editors in the newsroom, the media coverage inherently reflects their hidden biases and corporate/political interests.

By drawing on the news coverage of the Black Lives Matter movement, the Tara Reade-Joe Biden scandal and much more, Reza and Nicole discuss the pervasive problems of a lack of diversity and privilege in the newsroom, the ineffectiveness of ethics guidelines, and the impacts of these biases on the audience with our guest speaker, Cassandra Cervi in today's episode of 'On That!'

On That! conducts a deep dive into a topic of interest featuring individual guests or a panel of debaters or former debaters through three sections: framing the situation, analyzing the impacts, and exploring the future of the topic.
