What does a strong safety culture really look like?
On this episode of On the Front Line, I talk with Scott Reynolds about something he believes strongly: safety can’t just live inside the safety department. It has to be part of the culture. Scott has spent his career in transportation safety, and one thing he’s learned is that you can have all the right policies, technology, training, and procedures—but they only work when your people believe in them.
One thing Scott said really stood out to me: to be a good safety leader, you have to have the heart of a teacher. It’s easy to get caught up in spreadsheets, numbers, reports, and technology. But as Scott reminds us, behind every number is a person: a driver with a family depending on them to make it home safely.
We talk about identifying risk before it becomes an incident, giving drivers the tools to make good decisions, recognizing people when they do things right, and why Safety, Operations, and Maintenance need to work together instead of against each other.
Because safety isn’t about catching people doing something wrong. It’s about teaching, listening, recognizing risk, and helping people make better decisions. And that’s how you
build a culture people actually want to be part of.#OnTheFrontLine #Trucking #SafetyCulture #TruckingSafety #SafetyLeadership #Transportation #Leadership #FleetSafety
On this episode of On the Front Line, Gina Anderson sits down with Nyssa Gardebrecht for a conversation about supply chain, innovation, problem-solving, and keeping people at the center of change.
Nyssa believes improving a process isn’t just about making it faster or more efficient. It’s about understanding the people doing the work, listening to their experiences, and finding solutions that actually make things better.
As technology continues to reshape supply chain and logistics, Nyssa offers an important reminder: there are people behind every process, and they want their work to matter and their voices to be heard.
She also shares she hopes to be the kind of leader who advocates for people, asks the right questions, and isn’t afraid to challenge the way things have always been done.
Gina honored Nyssa with the On the Front Line Pelican Award, recognizing her commitment to lifting others up and making a difference!

In this episode of On the Front Line, Gina Anderson sits down with Kristen Matwychuk, Community Engagement Manager at Manitoba Pork, to discuss the power of agricultural literacy, community engagement, and inspiring the next generation to understand where their food comes from.
Kristen shares how volunteering in classrooms, building relationships between farmers and communities, and educating young people can change perceptions about agriculture. She believes the future of farming depends not only on innovation, but also on creating trust, encouraging curiosity, and helping people understand the families behind the food they eat.
Whether you work in agriculture, education, or leadership, this conversation is a reminder that lasting change often begins with one conversation and one classroom.

On this special edition of On the Front Line: The Safety, Learning & Operations Podcast, Dr. Gina Anderson, speaks with Ben Fiore, Terminal Manager at Eagle Transport Corporation in Tampa, Florida.
Ben leads a fleet responsible for the safe and timely delivery of petroleum products. In an industry where precision, trust, and communication are critical, his work keeps operations running smoothly every day.
But his impact goes beyond the terminal.
As a lifelong Scout and honoree recognized by the National Tank Truck Carriers, Ben saw a gap between the trucking industry and the next generation. Instead of waiting for change, he created it.
Through the Truck Transportation Merit Badge Academy with the Boy Scouts of America, Ben has introduced more than 100 Scouts to careers in the fuel and trucking industry. By bringing real trucks and professional drivers into the experience, he gives young people a hands-on look at the work that keeps the country moving.
His leadership is grounded in a simple belief: the world moves forward because of people who do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
If you care about leadership, workforce development, safety, and building the future of the trucking industry, this conversation is worth your time.
On this episode of On the Front Line: The Safety, Learning & Operations Podcast, host Dr. Gina Anderson, learning scientist and CEO of Luma Brighter Learning, sits down with Graig Morin, co-founder and president of Brown Dog Carriers & Logistics.
Graig shares how his journey from struggling truck driver to logistics entrepreneur shaped a people-first trucking company culture built on trust, safety, and community impact.
This episode explores what happens when someone who has experienced the worst parts of the trucking industry decides to build something better — a company where driver wellbeing, leadership, and doing the right thing come before profit.
From sleeping on a friend’s couch early in his career to leading a respected Maine-based trucking and logistics company,
Graig explains how empathy, humility, and strong values can transform operations, safety culture, and driver retention.
You’ll also hear powerful stories about community service, including delivering sandwiches to veterans, transporting donated medical chairs to emergency rooms during COVID, and supporting local schools in Biddeford, Maine.
Graig’s leadership philosophy is simple:“Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”
In this conversation, Dr. Anderson and Graig explore what that looks like in practice—behind the wheel, in dispatch, and across the trucking industry.

With a background in education, Brandon brings a rare lens to frontline leadership in trucking and logistics: one that puts people before metrics, every time.
