Easter Season continues for 50 days ending at Pentcost, it is a time of reflection on Christ's suffering, crucifixion and resurrection.

The two disciples on their way to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus because they were looking for someone else, a different kind of Messiah. In order for them to recognize Jesus he took them through the Old Testament reminding them that Messiah's suffering and death were to be the actual means by which he would enter into his glory, thus establishing that his death was no obstacle to his being Messiah.

In order to recognize Jesus the two disciples' faith had to rest in who he was in Scripture, not who their culture led them to believe he was.
