The Portland Trailblazers are a popular NBA team in my home state of Oregon. Every year they host a training camp, where they invite a bunch of potential basketball players to try out at their facilities. One year, a friend was observing the tryouts, and noticed that everyone was trying really hard, but one athlete was clearly playing better than everybody else. My friend, the observer, asked the coach why this particular player was playing so well. The coach replied, “That player is the only guy who knows he already made the team. So he plays with confidence and ease.”
As Christians, we can be assured that we already made God’s team. The second we accepted Jesus into our hearts, we were saved into eternity. So we can live with ease, fearless. We don’t have to prove ourselves or win God’s favor; instead, we can live courageously and boldly, sharing the Good News with people in our lives.
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 3:12, “Since we have such a hope, we are very bold.” So, be bold in your faith. Play like you’re already on the team – because you are. Confidently share the Good News of Jesus Christ, and joyfully too.
