It’s the first full episode of On the Terrace, the after-show for the time travel comedy Night Terrace! Settle in with host Vaya Pashos (Neighbuzz) for chat with members of the cast and crew. This week we discuss Night Terrace episode one: “Moving House”.

Anastasia Black discovers her house can travel through space and time – and gets stuck with the enthusiastic but gormless Eddie Jones. Vaya chats with guests John Richards (co-producer, head writer and writer of this episode) and Ben McKenzie (co-producer and the actor behind Eddie Jones) about the origins of Eddie, the D.E.P.A.R.T.M.E.N.T., and the house, as well as the planning that went into this crucial first episode, how things have changed in the five years since it was made and much more.

  • “He’s never cruel, but often cowardly” is a reference to writer Terrance Dicks’ famous description of the Doctor from his book The Making of Doctor Who: “The Doctor believes in good and fights evil. Though often caught up in violent situations, he is a man of peace. He is never cruel or cowardly. In fact, to put it simply, the Doctor is a hero. These days there aren’t so many of them around…” (The accuracy of this description is debated, but it’s since been used by and about the Doctor in the show itself.)

  • Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries is a series of four telemovies set in the 1964, following the adventures of Phryne Fisher’s niece Peregrine. Toby Truslove plays the son of the head of the Adventuresses’ Club, which Peregrine joins.
  • “The Erinsborough Tornado” Neighbours storyline from August 2014 – around the time season one of Night Terrace was being recorded – is so significant it has its own Wikipedia page!
  • Kessler syndrome is totally a real thing, as is an Einstein-Rosen bridge, which is basically a fancy name for a wormhole.
  • Cal Wilson’s extended “No, not the day-spa!” line is from her original recording session; Jackie’s reading of the “Einstein-Munchausen guess” line is from the very first table read of episode one.
