On April 11th, 2026, a worker at a scrapyard in Cahokia Heights, Illinois damaged the high voltage battery on an electric vehicle while moving it with heavy equipment. The fire spread through the back lot, eventually damaging over 100 cars. Ten fire departments responded. It took 8 hours and 60,000 gallons of water to extinguish.
