One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey Part 1 chapter 5, narrated by Isaac BirchallThe fog is rolling in around the chief again and he is trying to fight it so that he can keep an eye on the new guy. Around 1, the fog fades away and the tables are moved for the meeting. The Doctor walks in and takes his seat, everyone else sits too, the Big Nurse entering last to command the room.As soon as she sits down, one of the patients starts Wailing about how tired he is, but she doesn’t pay him and attention while she gathers her papers together. The Nurse then sets her watch and takes out her folder to start the meeting, no one is watching her except for McMurphy, looking to understand what the Big Nurse is getting at; she is just as wary as he is. The meeting starts with the Nurse talking about Harding’s issues with his wife, his jealousy issues, and his issues with his wife’s belief that any action by a man that isn’t “macho” is “dandy.” McMurphy interrupts the meeting to make a rude comment, and almost takes the Big Nurse off guard, but she keeps her cool and decides to have a look at McMurphy’s folder instead of Harding’s. She reads through his history and talks to the Doctor about just how McMurphy ended up in the hospital.
