‘One of Them Days’

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) KJV

You ever heard the expression, “When it rains, it pours?!”

This is usually closely prefaced or proceeded by some tale of woe where the main character is bombarded with some seemingly catastrophic event and then another and perhaps another until is seems like the person in question is simply doomed to misfortune!

I have certainly had days like these myself. For instance, some time ago while working as a delivery driver, I was having one of those days!

I arrived at work, and things were running well behind schedule. After finally receiving my packages for the day, I began to haul them out to the van. As I was loading them, I dropped one of them. Except it didn’t just hit the ground, it rolled off the side of the embankment. I was parked near a hill. It was like a scene from a comical movie skit!

The package hit the embankment, hit the ground, and then proceeded to roll all the way down the hill, before finally coming to a crash at the bottom! 

All I could do is watch in horror and then the sinking feeling hit me: I have to tell my supervisor about this!

I did and after some time, they sent someone to the bottom of the hill to retrieve the package. It was more than worse for wear and completely undeliverable. Not only did I have a late start to my route that day, but I had to endure the humiliation of it all.

In hindsight of course, the entire occurence is quite funny. However, at the time, I can assure you, I wasn’t thrilled. 

In our Christian journey’s, there are certainly times when life seems overwhelming, and the circumstances we are facing, insurmountable. 

And for good reason at times, especially when dealing with things like tragedy, loss of work, or a wayward family member. 

But I want to encourage you today!

No matter what you may be facing, have faced, or will face in the future, God is an ever present help in time of trouble!

He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

And we can take that promise to the bank!
 
God is not a man that He should lie. 

Listen, the storms of life come to us all, but as born again believers, we have a blessed hope!

We can and should possess joy in the very midst of fiery trials.

Why because Jesus is in the fire with us!

The Bible never said we wouldn’t be tried, but rather to rejoice when we are!

Why? Because if we will just hold on, keeping our trust on the Word of God and eyes on Jesus, we will come out stronger, cleaner, and closer to God than ever before!

I want to encourage us all today!

This starts right now, by filling up on the Word of God. 

We don’t have to be caught off guard or ignorant of the devil’s devices. 

The clouds can give way and the rain can come, but it doesn’t have to wreak havoc in our lives!

We can rest safely in the ark of God’s promises knowing right well that this storm will pass and we will come across to the other side!

With Jesus in our boat, we don’t have to fret!

With Jesus at the helm, we don’t have to worry!

With Jesus as the captain and bishop of our souls, we don’t have to be discouraged, but rather we can be the ones encouraging those around us!

Is it one of them days?

Be encouraged! His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness!
