Ian Roberts had a respectable 12-year career in rugby league playing across South Sydney, Manly and North Queensland. Roberts was a hitman with a powerful reputation that left the opposition scared to run the ball at him, playing at a state level 11 times for NSW. He also played well as a national level representing his country 14 times including on the 1994 Kangaroo Tour.

In 1995, Roberts came out as the first openly gay player and has since become a spokesperson for the LGBTQIA+ community in the years that followed his rugby league career. Since retiring, Roberts has starred as a successful actor in multiple movies and TV series.
